“Providing more resources for Michigan’s families, schools, and communities is a winning strategy. We just have to go all in and stop pairing these improvements with tax giveaways that benefit wealthy corporations. Imagine how much farther we can go if we invest in our people AND make sure the wealthy corporations and rich households pay what they owe in taxes.”

A recent report by the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (ITEP), found that the top 1% of wealthy households in Michigan pay the lowest percent share of their income in taxes. And previous studies have found that the majority of Michigan businesses pay $0 in corporate income taxes. Poll after poll has found that Michiganders – including a majority of Republicans in some surveys – recognize the problem with this and support a number of measures to correct it.
